Acceptance

By using Loci Earth you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

The service

Loci Earth is a community mapping platform operated by the Spirit of the Place Foundation. We provide tools for members to keep and share interesting places. The service is provided in good faith on an as-is basis, to the extent permitted by applicable law.

Your account

You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. You must not share your account or use another person's account without their permission. You must be 13 years or older to create an account (the minimum age for digital services under UK law).

Your content

You retain ownership of content you submit: places, descriptions, and images. By submitting content you grant us a licence to store, display, and (where you have chosen to publicize it) distribute that content as open data.

You must not submit content that is unlawful, defamatory, or infringes the rights of others. We reserve the right to remove content that violates these terms.

If you delete your account, your personal data is removed. Content you have publicized as open data may be retained in anonymised form. Content already downloaded by third parties under open licences cannot be recalled.

Open data

Content you choose to publicize is made available under open licences and may be used by third parties in accordance with those licences. Publicizing is always a deliberate opt-in action. Private content remains private.

Once publicized content has been distributed via our data portal or downloaded by third parties, the Foundation cannot guarantee its removal from all copies. Please only publicize content you are comfortable making permanently public.

Acceptable use

You must not use Loci Earth to harass other members, submit false or misleading location data, attempt to access accounts or data that are not yours, use automated means to scrape or extract data from the service, or interfere with the operation of the service.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Spirit of the Place Foundation is not liable for the accuracy of community-submitted content, or for any loss or damage arising from your use of the service. Location and access information on the platform reflects community opinion and should not be relied upon for navigation or safety decisions.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
